Germany Eurovision 2021: Review - Jendrik "I Don't Feel Hate"
Thursday Apr 29, 2021
Thursday Apr 29, 2021
Jendrik will represent Germany at Eurovision 2021 in Rotterdam with the song "I Don't Feel Hate". This quirky tropical theatre mashup track is already through to the grand final as part of the 'Big 5', but what are Germany's chances of victory? The Wiwi Jury discuss. Wiwiblogger Robyn described it this way:
"Jendrik doesn’t do things by halves. 'I Don’t Feel Hate' is full of zip and zing and just when it feels like the dial has turned up to 10, Jendrik cranks it up to 11. At the heart, though, is a message of resilience, of not succumbing to the negativity of those who attempt to knock you down. The song itself is a perfect example of this: Jendrik isn’t trying to create a song that everyone from everywhere will love (honey, there ain’t no such thing). Instead he’s being true to himself and expressing himself in a way that he wants to."

Azerbaijan Eurovision 2021: Review - Efendi "Mata Hari"
Thursday Apr 29, 2021
Thursday Apr 29, 2021
The Wiwi Jury discuss Azerbaijan's Eurovision 2021 entry "Mata Hari" by Efendi. She's a spy undercover, playing the game of desire... but is she headed to the grand final on 22 May? Wiwiblogger Erdi writes:
"Is this the Azerbaijan we all miss? Definitely. Mata Hari is the energetic song we all want to listen after a really hard year. The song itself has a very nice tempo and when you look at the richness of Azerbaijani music, this song is just a very nice mix of traditional and current styles. I really like to see Azerbaijan going with this style."

Ukraine Eurovision 2021: Review - Go_A "SHUM"
Wednesday Apr 28, 2021
Wednesday Apr 28, 2021
Go_A will represent Ukraine at Eurovision 2021 in Rotterdam with their song "SHUM". Will they make it through to the grand final? The Wiwi Jury discuss Ukraine's chances of victory. On our website, wiwiblogger Renske writes:
"Go_A is at Eurovision with an honourable mission - to show that there is power in your poots, something interesting in your family history. Building on a song she knew from her childhood, Kateryna Pavlenko again managed to create captivating lyrics. The techno elements that were popular in 1990s Ukraine are a surprisingly well-fitting choice too."

Wednesday Apr 28, 2021
Wednesday Apr 28, 2021
The Wiwi Jury review Russia's Eurovision 2021 entry, "Russian Woman" by Manizha. Will this Russian Woman make it all the way to the Eurovision grand final on 22 May? Wiwiblogger Renske writes:
"Taking us from the fields of the Emperor to the destruction of war, Manizha powerfully tells us that despite all backlash, you can 'stand up and go'. It's a mix of styles and poetry that we have never seen at Eurovision before, making it perhaps one of the most unique entries in recent years."

Czech Republic Eurovision 2021: Benny Cristo "omaga"
Wednesday Apr 28, 2021
Wednesday Apr 28, 2021
Benny Cristo will represent the Czech Republic at Eurovision 2021 with the song "omaga". Will he qualify for the grand final on 22 May? The Wiwi Jury discuss his chances. On our website, wiwiblogger Lucy writes:
"Benny Cristo has cleverly crafted a song that references lockdown in a cheeky and hard-to-resist way. Seriously, the lyric 'there ain't no apocalypse, as long as you're here on my lips' might be one of the most flirtatious lyrics ever in Eurovision. The song is repeat-heaven, and I'm beyond excited to see what he brings to Rotterdam."

Albania Eurovision 2021: Review - Anxhela Peristeri "Karma"
Wednesday Apr 28, 2021
Wednesday Apr 28, 2021
The Wiwi Jury reviews Albania's Eurovision 2021 song "Karma" by Anxhela Peristeri. Can she qualify for the Eurovision grand final on 22 May? Wiwiblogger Josh writes:
"Power, beauty, emotion, and passion — Anxhela provides all these factors to 'Karma' in spades. The lyrics are full of pain, sadness, and regret over a past filled with love of 'self' over the people that should have been most important in her life. The message is strong and powerful, but the staging will be key to help viewers form a connection to the song and give it that one final moment that sticks in people’s minds."

Norway Eurovision 2021: Review - TIX "Fallen Angel"
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
TIX is perhaps Norway's biggest pop star. Can "Fallen Angel" rise from Semi-Final 1 of Eurovision 2021 and climb the scoreboard? The Wiwi Jury reviews his chances. Writing on the Wiwibloggs web site, Kristín was full of praise. She wrote:
"Norway trolled us all this year, didn’t they? And thus are giving us the most beautiful ballad of 2021. 'Fallen Angel' and TIX might seem like a novelty act at first, but underneath there are raw emotions and a haunting melody, delivered by a strong singer. Many have expressed that the song should have been kept in Norwegian. And yes, the original version was just as brilliant, but TIX gives more power in the English version and completely captures the audience. The thing about TIX is that he immediately makes you care about him and his song. You simply want to embrace him. 'Fallen Angel' could very well turn out to be one of those dark horses that quietly sneaks into the top ten — something of a trademark for Norway in recent years. This is by far the most captivating entry of 2021 and that’s the hill I’m ready to die on."

Belgium Eurovision 2021: Review - Hooverphonic "The Wrong Place"
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
Can Belgium's Hooverphonic qualify from Semi-Final 1 of Eurovision 2021? The Wiwi Jury reviews their song "The Wrong Place" and makes some predictions. Writing on the Wiwibloggs web site, Robyn writes: "Hooverphonic are serving the coolest song about a regrettable hookup. The lyrics of 'The Wrong Place' are packed full of amazing lines, including the absolute gem: 'You get up because you need an organic cup of tea'. It very much paints a picture of morning-after regret, when the choices of the night before seem a million times worse in the cold, hard light of day. My worry is that 'The Wrong Place' might be too subtle to stand out in the quality-laden first semi-final, but with Geike’s strong and mesmerising vocals, Hooverphonic do have the potential to stand out."

Sweden Eurovision 2021: Review - Tusse "Voices"
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
Can Sweden's Tusse win Eurovision 2021 with "Voices"? The Wiwi Jury reviews his chances. Wiwiblogger William writes: "The opening shot of Tusse walking on digital water is a come-to-Jesus moment: You can’t help but go silent and get ready for the Scandipop sermon! Tusse is a vision in velvet and diamonds and glamour, yet when he sings you hear the wisdom of a survivor who understands struggle and what it’s like to be dragged through the mud. It’s this grit — along with his total authenticity and freedom of movement — that elevates this above all the other generic songs about haters. He sings, yes, but you also get the sense he’s speaking directly to you and from his heart. We may have heard it all before, but we haven’t heard it this good."

Serbia Eurovision 2021: Review - Hurricane "Loco Loco"
Monday Apr 26, 2021
Monday Apr 26, 2021
The Wiwi Jury reviews Serbia's Eurovision 2021 song "Loco Loco" by Hurricane. Can they qualify from Semi-Final 2? We discuss and make our prediction. Writing on our web site, Luis describes it this way. "Fierce, fun, bombastic: 'Loco Loco' is Serbia’s most vibrant Eurovision entry ever. Hurricane will get everybody moving with this strong dance number. This is loud and unapologetic and it will transcend language barriers. It’s not so certain whether the vocals will get blown away by the choreography, but in a way this is not the kind of song where vocal proficiency is required. Brace yourselves, Hurricane Serbia is coming to the final!"
